DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a teenager in Colchester last month have appealed for more information in a bid to identify the killer.

Jay Whiston was stabbed at a house party on Marlowe Way in the Lexden area of Colchester shortly after 10pm on Saturday, September 8. The 17-year-old boy from Aster Close in Clacton died a short time later in hospital. A post-mortem examination result showed that he died from a stab wound.

Five people who were initially arrested in connection with the death have had their bailed extended, as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder.

Many of the people who attended the party have been interviewed by police officers but detectives are still trying to piece together the events of that night, as well as identify the knife used in the murder.

Although a number of knives were recovered from the local area, police do not believe any of them are the murder weapon.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Simon Parkes, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the help we’ve had from the teenagers so far. There is still a lot of work to get through before we can fully understand how and why Jay was stabbed.

“Jay’s parents, Caroline and Shearer, lost their son. Although they have been hugely impressed by those who have come forward so far, they together with other family members and friends need some closure.

“We believe there are still people who know who is responsible for Jay’s stabbing.”

The five people arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after the stabbing are all from the Colchester area. The three 18-year-old men and two 17-year-old boys were all due to return on police bail on Wednesday, October 17. This has now been extended until Thursday,November 22 pending further enquiries.
