Police searching for a missing Essex man say they have found a body.

Andrew Smith, 45, from Braintree went missing from Braintree on Wednesday around 6.50pm and a missing persons appeal was issued by Essex Police.

Officers said they were extremely concerned for Mr Smith’s welfare and an appeal for information to his whereabouts issued on social media in the hope someone may have seen him.Today officers announced a body had been found in Braintree and their search for Mr Smith was on hold.

Police said Mr Smith’s family have been informed of the development ahead of formal identification taking place.

The police have thanked the media and the public for sharing their appeal.
