A bomb disposal team was called to the Euston Estate after two 500lb unexploded Second World War RAF bombs were found.

Suffolk Police were initially alerted to the estate about 9am yesterday after a member of estate staff found the two devices.

The MOD bomb disposal team from Colchester garrison were called to the estate, but passed on the call to a team from RAF Wittering after the bombs were found to be RAF devices.

The team stayed at the estate overnight to assess the bombs.

A spokesman for RAF Wittering confirmed the team had been called to Euston.

“The 5131 bomb disposal team were called to the Euston Estate where they are currently investigating two 500lb aircraft class weapons.

“Their status is being investigated. Once the status has been established, they will be dealt with appropriately,” he said.

Suffolk police confirmed this afternoon the bombs had been removed and all personnel stood down.
