MORE than two dozen firefighters faced explosions today as they tackled a blaze in Cambridgeshire.

Five crews along with a turntable ladder from Cambridge were sent to the fire behind a property in Wisbech Road, Littleport.

The blaze engulfed three temporary buildings, eight cars and a camper van along with eight cylinders containing an inflammable substance.

Shortly after crews arrived around 1pm four of the cylinders exploded. A 200-metre cordon was put in place and the nearby A1101 was closed during the afternoon while fire was put out and the cylinders cooled.

The cause of the blaze is unknown and fire investigators will start their inquiry tomorrow.
