A LARGE branch of an oak tree blocked a road in the Old Martlesham area.

The large tree fell last night at around 11.10pmin Waldringfield Road near School Lane and the road was closed between the junction of School Lane and Viking Heights in Martlesham. As it fell, it brought down some BT cables.

Suffolk County Council's Highways team had to return this morning with a tree surgeon to remove it.

BT engineers arrived on site today and made the area safe. The cables are junction cables between two exchanges and they remained intact so no customers were affected. BT had to wait for the council's tree surgeons to come and cut away the branch from the cables.

The work was finally completed and the road reopened at 2pm.
