The victim of a fatal crash on the A1307 in Linton has been named by police as 25-year-old Mathew Smyth from Duxford.

Mr Smyth was riding a red Yamaha motorbike when it was involved in a major collision in the early hours of Wednesday, August 29.

His family have paid tribute to an “amazing, cheeky, fun-loving young man”, and revealed that he was expecting a baby when he was killed on the busy road.

They said: “We, the family and friends are absolutely heart broken-and distraught beyond belief at the loss of Mathew. We have lost the most amazing, cheeky, fun-loving young man anyone could ever wish to meet.

“The impact this has and will forever have on our lives is indescribable, Mathew will now never get to meet his unborn child.”

The crash, which happened on the A1307 between Horseheath and Linton, was reported to Cambridgeshire Police just after 3.30am.

Ambulance crews also attended but paramedics were unable to save Mr Smyth, who died at the scene.

A man has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision and failing to report a collision to police.

Ricardas Taraska, 23, of Pinder Road, Norwich, has been remanded to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, September 28.
