A FAN has paid his own lasting tribute to football legend Sir Bobby Robson - by getting his face tattooed on his thigh.

George Wright, 45, decided he wanted his own permanent memorial to the former Ipswich Town, Newcastle United and England manager, who died last week from cancer.

Newcastle fan Mr Wright, a construction manager, is spending 600 on the masterpiece and has already been under the tattoo artist's needle for eight hours - with further work being carried out over the following weeks.

The father-of-five decided that Sir Bobby needed a more lasting tribute than the scarves and flowers which have been left at St James' Park and Portman Road - so he got in touch with his tattooist.

“The full portrait of Sir Bobby is on now and it looks absolutely mint,” he said. “I've had quite a reaction from friends and family and people keep pulling my trousers down in the street to have a look - I'm going to get into trouble,'' he said.

When finished, the tattoo will have a portrait of Sir Bobby's face and beneath it the dates 1933-2009. Either side will be Newcastle United and England crests.
