A person who died on the rail line near Ingatestone in Essex on Thursday has been named as 15-year-old William Tweed.

Emergency services were called at 4.35pm to the line near Ingatestone station after reports that a person on the line had been struck.

Officers from British Transport Police were joined by paramedics from the east of England Ambulance Service, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

BTP officers yesterday confirmed that 15-year-old William Tweed from Ingatestone had died.

A spokesman from BTP added: “Specialist officers are supporting William’s family and work is on-going to establish how he came to be on the tracks.

“William’s family has requested that they are allowed the privacy and space to grieve and come to terms with his death.

“William’s death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Earlier in the evening train operator Greater Anglia reported that a trespass incident had taken place on the line near Ingatestone, and urged trains to travel slowly in the area.

The incident left severe delays on services in the area, with many services unable to run or being delayed as a result.

The issue affected trains to and from London Liverpool Street, including those running to and from Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich.
