Favourite seaside treat to help estuary appeal

The Brudenell and White Lion hotels in Aldeburgh have decided to give 50p for every meal towards the Alde & Ore Estuary Trust’s Save Our Suffolk Estuary campaign by improving its flood defences.

Professor Jane Maxim, chairman of the funding group, said: “TA Hotel Collection’s new pledge to fundraise through fish and chips at their hotels is a brilliant idea: it will not only raise vital funds but will also raise awareness of the Save Our Suffolk Estuary campaign, particularly to visitors who may not have seen the local publicity. We very much hope it will inspire other restaurants and hoteliers to match it with other creative suggestions.”

“This is a shared campaign for all of us who live, work and play in the Alde and Ore Estuary, and we are delighted that the TA Hotel Collection is embracing the message that local businesses need to recognise the importance of flood defences for the stability and growth of the local economy in this very special landscape.”

Confirming both hotels ongoing support for the trust, TA Hotel Collection managing director, Coastal Operations, Peter Osborne said: “Protecting our estuary, and the residents and visitors in our towns and villages, from future sea surges is essential, and becoming more urgent as sea levels are expected to rise. We hope our fish and chips initiative will help to inform more people about this important cause as well make a contribution towards the funds.”
