Rotarians in Felixstowe have raised £11,000 from their annual charity boxing tournament.
It was the fifth year running the event, staged at Brackenbury Sports Centre, had been held.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Felixstowe for charities supported by the club, the event welcomed the Tyne Tees and Wear ABA to contend a challenge match with an Eastern Counties select team. The result was a 5-5 draw.
The ‘fight of the night’ was an Eastern Counties Welterweight Elite challenge match between Paul Gordon of Harwich Boxing and Reece Wade of Essex University with Gordon running out a close winner. Teeside (TTW) took home the Rotary Club of Felixstowe challenge belt
A rotary club spokesman said: “While boxing may be a contentious sport we feel by our involvement, having visited clubs in the Suffolk area, we are making a real difference to young people’s personal development with the discipline the sport requires.”
