Blaze rips through Felixstowe bungalow

Seven Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crews were originally dispatched to a bungalow in Fleetwood Road, near the town centre, shortly before 2pm today as the fire took hold.

Crews from Ipswich East, Woodbridge, Princes Street and Felixstowe stations were called to the scene.

A spokesman for Suffolk police also confirmed officers supported firefighters as they tackled the blaze.

Several police cars were seen blocking off access to the road while firefighters used a crane to douse the flames on the bungalow from the air.

Crew members also used jets, hose reels and ladders in their bid to contain the fire.

Several fire engines were stood down around three hours after being called out, while others remained at the scene to ensure the blaze was fully out.

Pictures later revealed the extent of the damage to the bungalow as the internal roof structure was visible after the fire.

Firefighters in Fleetwood Road said they did not believe anyone was hurt in the incident.

The cause of the blaze is not currently known and an investigation by the fire service is underway.

At the scene, group manager Will Tell said: "This fire involves a detached bungalow, which affected the vast majority of the bungalow.

"It's been quite a serious fire, and ultimately we've made sure that the road is clear.

"As far as we know, no-one has been hurt. We're carrying on our investigations with the police and the ambulance service."
