COMMUNITY leaders are today preparing to launch legal action to remove a group of travellers from a car park in the resort.

A number of caravans and other vehicles moved into the Garrison Lane car park earlier this week, just days after a separate group of travellers left the site of the south seafront development.

Councillors and police are aware of the group and they have pledged to take action.

During the weekend a number of the caravans had gone, but three still remained on site yesterday.

A spokesman for Suffolk Coastal District Council said: “We understand from the police that they are a different group of travellers and we will instigate legal action to seek removal from the site.”

It comes after councillors launched legal action to remove travellers from the south seafront development site last weekend.

The group were moved on from the area so that work could finally begin on the 20million project which will see new homes and leisure facilities created.

It is believed the group managed to gain access to the land around the Martello Tower via a track at the end of Manor Road.

Councillors have assured residents they will do all they can to move the travellers as soon as possible.

The spokesman added: “We are conscious of the inconvenience for nearby residents and hope the situation will be remedied quickly.”
