A Felixstowe woman suffered a fractured skull in a violent attack by her partner during which he “slammed” her head into a coffee table, a court has heard.

During the assault Justin Hinchey pinned Lana Coughlan down on the sofa in her flat and knelt on her chest before punching her five times to the head, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He had then pulled her by the hair to the floor “slamming” her head against the side of a coffee table as he did so, said Joe Bird, prosecuting.

The incident happened after Miss Coughlan spoke to Hinchey about playing computer games when he got home from work.

Hinchey, 23, of Adastral Close, Felixstowe, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm in August 2016 and was given a 15 month prison sentence suspended for two years and 150 hours unpaid work.

He was also ordered to do 25 days rehabilitation and to pay £750 compensation and £500 costs.

Roger Thomson, for Hinchey, said he had no previous convictions and had been struck first by Miss Coughlan causing damage to a tooth.

He said Hinchey hadn’t deliberately hit her head on the coffee table.
