POLICE at this year's V Festival say festival-goers have been good natured and are enjoying the event with only a small number of reported crimes and arrests.

The number of crimes reported at this year's event is less than in 2007.

Superintendent Steve Johnson of Essex Police said: “The festival has been very safe and the revellers are enjoying themselves in a good natured way.

“We have a highly visible police presence at the festival but have not had to intervene on many occasions.

“Our only warning is regarding alcohol consumption, just reminding revellers that excess drinking makes them vulnerable and they should take care of their possessions and look out for each other.”

Last year police made nearly 70 arrests at the event, 32 of which were for possession of drugs and nine were for possession with intent to supply. Seventeen people were arrested on suspicion of theft and three were held over assaults.
