Smokers in Suffolk are being challenged to find out the truth about the age of their lungs with a new smartphone app that has been launched by Live Well Suffolk.

The service has developed the app, called Lungclock, in a bid to encourage smokers to kick the habit. The app can determine how much smoking has aged a person’s lungs and asks users to submit key pieces of information. It also uses an innovative tool which requires the user to breathe into their phone’s microphone as part of the measurement.

Henry Tapp, Team Lead for Live Well Suffolk’s Stop Smoking Services, said: “Smoking can really damage your lungs and, while lots of people know it can cause lung cancer, it can also cause your lungs to age prematurely. This affects your lung function which can impact on your breathing and lead to frequent coughs, chest infections, asthma and lung disease.”

The Lungclock app is free from the Apple and Android app stores.
