The fire alarm, which was activated from the signal box, meant National Express East Anglia services were temporarily suspended while it was investigated.
Train services were running about 20 minutes behind schedule. The signal box was evacuated for ten minutes but staff were allowed back there within ten minutes. Normal services have been resumed again.
Network Rail said the fire service were called but there was no fire in the end. It is investigating the cause of the alarm.
