FIREFIGHTERS have been called to Ipswich Hospital today to tackle a blaze in the dermatology department.

The small fire broke out at about 3.30pm in the north end of the hospital in Heath Road and a crew from the Colchester Road station were alerted via an automatic alarm.

On arrival they requested further assistance following a call from someone on the premises to say there was smoke seen coming from under a doorway.

They extinguished the fire, which was in the underground service ducting, and ventilated the surrounding rooms and corridors.

The incident was finished by 4pm.
