A STRETCH of the A14 was this afternoon gridlocked after a fire on an articulated lorry.

The westbound carriageway of the busy road - close to the Sainsbury's roundabout in Bury St Edmunds - this afternoon came to a standstill following the blaze.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire Service said the trailer unit of the lorry was on fire along with half of the timberload and a small LPG cylinder in the cab.

Two crews from Bury attended the scene at about 2.10pm this afternoon with the fire brought under control within an hour, but heavy tailbacks still reported.
