Fire crews from across West Suffolk managed to prevent a barn fire from spreading to a nearby cottage near Haverhill on Saturday night.
Six fire crews were at the scene of the fire at Calford Green, between Haverhill and Kedington, after the fire broke out at about 5pm.
No one was hurt in the blaze, but there was concern because a thatched cottage was not far from the barn.
The fire crews prevented the blaze from spreading to the home – but stayed on the scene for some time to ensure flames did not flare up again.
Saturday was a busy day for the county’s fire crews – at the same time as the blaze in the south west of Suffolk fire crews from Lowestoft were called to a heath fire on the other side of the county.
And five crews from the Ipswich area were called to a major blaze in about 1,000 square metres of gorse at Rushmere Heath on the east of the town.
