Firefighters were called to a house fire which began in the living room of a house in Colchester in the early hours of this morning.
Essex County Fire and Rescue was called at 3.30am to a home in Hawthorn Avenue, with two fire engines from Colchester attending.
A fire service spokesman said that the fire was in the living room, and that the curtains and sofa were alight.
The flames were put out by 4.35am, although the house has suffered some smoke and fire damage.
An investigation is set to be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
