FIREFIGHTERS are currently dealing with a blaze on the proposed site for a new supermarket.

Crews received reports of a fire at the Brett Works site in Pound Lane, Hadleigh, at 10.29pm.

When they arrived they found the derelict building, which measured 10m by 50m, was 100% involved in fire.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire Service said four appliances from Ipswich and Hadleigh were called to the scene.

One eyewitness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “We live about a mile away and we could smell the smoke from there. There seems to be a lot of fire engines and a huge amount of smoke and they have closed the High Street.”

In March this year a huge fire ripped through the site which led to 10 crews being called to the scene.

It is not yet known if the fire is being treated as suspicious but no one is believed to have been hurt.
