Firefighters tackled a blaze in Ardleigh near Colchester yesterday involving 60 tonnes of straw.

Two fire crews from Clacton, one from Colchester and one from Manningtree attended the scene in Fox Street at around 2.40pm.

According to a spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, crews surrounded the haystack to stop the fire spreading and worked to separate the straw on fire from the unaffected straw.

Crews then monitored the blaze while it burnt out under control.

By 6pm just one fire engine remained at the scene to monitor the burning stack.
