An arson investigation has been launched after a large barn was totally destroyed by fire near Ipswich last night.

Four fire crews were called to the Marvens in Washbrook just before 10.30pm to tackle the blaze and the incident was reported as under control by just after 11.20pm.

Two crews from Ipswich East, one from Princes Street and one from Holbrook attended and firefighters remained on scene for several hours to dampen the area down.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said the incident is being treated as arson and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity near the scene at the time of the incident or who has information is asked to call Suffolk police on 101.
