Fire crews were called to the Suffolk coast to tackle a blaze this morning as the spate of outdoor incidents continue during the spell of warm and dry weather.

Five vehicles, including an all-terrain Unimog, were called at 10.17am to attend the blaze at Covehithe, near Southwold.

Crews from Hethersett, Halesworth, Bungay, Beccles, Lowestoft, Wrentham, and Leiston, were mobilised to fight the flames in 200 square metres of field stubble.

A farmer assisted fire crews with a tractor and plough and the fire was brought under control by 11.13am.

The incident prompted Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to tweet: “It’s already another busy day in Suffolk.

“Please take care whilst out and about. If you see a fire give us as much info as you can so we can get resources to the right place in good time.”
