FIREFIGHTERS are at the scene of a gorse and undergrowth fire in Martlesham this evening.
A blaze broke out in an area of heathland just off Dobbs Lane, near to the old airfield at around 4.20pm.
Four crews from Princes Street station in Ipswich, headquarters in Colchester Road and one crew from Woodbridge arrived to discover an area of gorse and undergrowth measuring 300m by 50m alight.
Firefighters tackled the flames using beaters and hose jets, bringing the incident under control by around 5.35pm.
They are remaining on site this evening to dampen down the area and prevent further outbreaks of fire.
