FIRE broke out in the kitchen of a pub near Bury St Edmunds.
The fire started in the kitchen of The Victoria pub in Thurston shortly after 6pm today.
A fire crew from Bury and a crew from Ixworth managed to contain the blaze to the kitchen area but much of the pub's ground floor was smoke logged.
The flames had been completely extinguished and the area declare safe at around 6.30pm.
