A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman confirmed just after 9pm, that the fire had been extinguished but an investigation into the cause would be carried out.

He said: "No one was injured in the incident and the blaze didn't spread to any nearby properties."

In an update just after 9.45pm, Matt Webster, station manager, said the fire was under control and was being scaled down.

He said: "It's about seven acres of standing crop and about 200 metres of hedgerow.

"The crews have worked tirelessly in the heat and managed to get an early stop on the fire and prevented a huge amount of damage being caused to nearby properties."

The blaze comes after two other field fires in Ipswich in recent days, in Ravenswood and off Bramford Lane.
