FIREFIGHTERS had to help free a toddler after his head became trapped in a toy tipper truck.

The drama unfolded at a house in Finchingfield Way, Colchester, at about 2.45pm on New Year's Eve when the two-year-old sat on the truck, slid down and entangled his head in the bracket of the tipper mechanism.

“When we arrived at the scene an Ambulance Service paramedic had already calmed the child and his mother down,” explained Station Officer Joe Hassel, of Colchester Fire Station.

“The boy's head was caught in the tipper and he was lying on the floor. We didn't need to use tools, I just pulled a bracket apart to release the tailgate of the tipper and the baby was free.

“The whole thing was over in minutes.”

The boy was not hurt and the toy was not a Christmas present but one of the child's old favourites.
