Firefighters were kept busy with calls to floods on roads across Suffolk overnight, while a school in Clacton was left badly damaged after a pipe burst.

Two crews from Ipswich’s Princes Street station were called to flooding in Foxhall Fields, East Bergholt, at 11.22pm last night.

Crews from Halesworth and Lowestoft South then responded to flooding in Wissett at 12.12am.

Another call came in for Lowestoft South to respond to flooding in Oulton Road, North Oulton, at 1am.

Later, at 2.16am, it was the turn of Felixstowe firefighters to tackle flooding in Cornwall Road.

Princes Street station was back in action, alongside colleagues from Woodbridge, when flooding hit East Lane, in Bawdsey.

The west of the county was similarly affected – in Cox Lane, Great Barton, where two crews from Bury St Edmunds were sent at 4.20am, and in Aspen Close, Haverhill, where Bury St Edmunds firefighters were mobilised with a local crew at 6am.

At about the same time, Lowestoft South and Wrentham stations sent crews to deal with flooding in Old Bank Mews.

Meanwhile, in Essex, flooding damaged two floors of a school in Clacton-on-Sea.

Firefighters from Clacton, Weeley, Wivenhoe and Maldon were called to Walton Road at 11.23pm last night.

Instead of Storm Emma, a burst in the building’s loft was found to be the cause of a large amount of water accumulating on two floors and affecting the electricity supply.

Firefighters immediately began salvaging items in an attempt to reduce damage.

The building’s water and electricity supplies were cut off as crews used an aquavac – a high-powered vacuum tool – to remove excess water from within the building.

The pipe burst directly above a room containing various ICT equipment and the flooding also affected another computing room, causing considerable damage. The building itself has also suffered severe water damage.
