FIRE crews have spent more than four hours battling a muck blaze.

At just before 2.30am today firefighters were called to the B1117 at Yaxley Road, Eye, after receiving reports of a caravan fire.

On arrival the fire crews discovered that flames had spread from the caravan and its concrete pad, engulfing a heap of muck.

Deemed as being “heavily involved with fire”, more than 20 tonnes of muck was involved in the blaze and hose reels jets were used to bring the incident under control.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said that crews were still at the scene at 6am and were allowing the blaze to burn out under supervision.
