FIREFIGHTERS wearing breathing apparatus are tackling a blaze in a three storey factory warehouse in Essex.

Crews have reported that 40% of the ground floor and first floor of the building, which measures 30m by 40m, is well alight.

They were called to the warehouse, in Victoria Road, Chelmsford, just after 11pm tonight.

By 11.25pm they had requested the urgent attendance of an electrician to deal with internal wiring which was hindering firefighing operations.

An emergency team from EDF Energy had also been ordered to the scene.

At 11.36pm the officer in charge requested the attendance of an additional two pumps, as well as an aerial ladder platform.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have now been withdrawn from inside the building and are tackling the fire from outside.

A total of five crews - two from Chelmsford, one from Baddow, one from Ingatestone and another from Witham - are at the scene.
