Firefighters from four stations were called to extinguish a blaze which broke out in a field in the village of Elmswell, between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
The fire involved a 10-acre field near Lord’s footbridge, off Eastern Way.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 3.53pm to reports of the blaze.
Four fire engines were sent, along with a support crew, from stations in Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Hadleigh and Wickhambrook.
A spokesman for the fire service said the first crews had arrived to find it difficult to access the blaze and called for assistance.
