Firefighters tackled a blaze in St Osyth last night where five derelict caravans were destroyed.

Emergency services were called at around 10.05pm yesterday, Wednesday September 20, to the scene in Beach Road.

On arrival crews from Clacton and Weeley found five derelict caravans in an area spanning 80 square metres completely on fire with the area filled with smoke.

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters overcame access issues at the scene, which was blocked with discarded waste, before extinguishing the fire by 11.19pm.”

All five caravans were completely destroyed in the blaze.

An investigation into what may have caused the fire will take place today.
