Plans lodged for development of former Foyer housing support centre in Ipswich
The Foyer in Star Lane, which helped vulnerable young adults for more than 20 years, could be developed. A planning application has now been submitted by Ipswich-based firm Sai Asha Ltd to allow the building to be used as a house of multiple occupation. The building currently has 47 buildings and the developers have no plan to change this or the layout of the site. It is thought that the building would become private rented accommodation although it is not yet clear who this would be for.
Mum’s nursery rhyme nightmares solved by late-night crack team
A mother’s torment finally came to an end this week when she discovered what had been keeping her up at night. The mother, who lives on Bramford Road, kept hearing a distant rendition of ‘It’s Raining, It’s Pouring’ while she was trying to sleep. She said the noise has left her frightened and unsure on whether she was imagining it, after months of trouble she reported it to the Ipswich Borough Council who sent someone to investigate. They discovered that the music was coming from an industrial premises on the neighbouring Farthing Road estate, where the music was playing through a loud speaker as a deterrent for trespassers.
Rod Stewart to return to Portman Road for summer concert
Music lovers will be excited to hear legendary rocker Rod Stewart will return to Portman Road next summer, in support of the release of his 30th studio album Blood Red Roses. The show will be the 73-year-old’s third appearance at the venue - tickets go on sale at 9am on September 21 from ticketmaster.
New florist in Ipswich town centre - with a familiar name
A new florist has opened in The Saints in Ipswich town centre. The florist, which is called ‘Emma’s’, is the second of its kind with owner Emma Felgate already having a shop on Nacton Road. ‘Emma’s Florist’ has been on Nacton Road for more than 15-years and to celebrate the success of that business venture Mrs Felgate embarks on another.
New car park to open in Ipswich tomorrow
Ipswich has gained a carpark this week near the ITFC football ground. The new temporary long-stay car park is on the site of former pub Drum and Monkey on Princes Street. Prices for the new car park are £1 an hour and (midweek) £2 after 2pm.
