A TEACHER has been reminded of days gone by after spotting a photo in Flashback.

Paula Watson, of Elmswell, wrote regarding a photo from Sebert Wood Primary School’s UNICEF Day in February 1992. She said: “How lovely to see the photo of Carol Ingham, back left

“She was our deputy head at Rougham Primary (where I still teach) in the 1990s before becoming headteacher at Great Whelnetham Primary.

“When she left Rougham our then headteacher, the late Peter Donnelly, wrote an alternative version of Oh Carol for the staff to bid farewell to a much respected colleague.”

Every year for many years Halesworth Rotary Club held a toy service, remembers Bernard Mills, who wrote in regarding a Flashback photo from 1986.

He said: “Youngsters brought presents to be distributed to children who had a greater need than themselves.

“Unfortunately I do not know the names of any of the youngsters in the picture but the Vicar is the Rev Geoffrey Arrand who went on to be Archdeacon of Suffolk.

“At one of these services he told them a wonderful story involving The Flying Scotsman.”

he also identified a photo from Notcutts nursery and said: “The picture is of the then chairman of Notcutts Sam Notcutt presenting long service certificates to (left to right) Arthur Clark, Jim Barnes and Harry(?) Berry.

“Mr Berry could neither speak nor hear but was a superb plantsman and could make everyone understand what to do!”

Meanwhile, Laura Mayhew wrote: “Regarding the picture of Leiston Cage Bird Show.

“The gentleman on the left hand side is my great-granddad, Mr George Mayhew of Leiston, a regular shower of caged birds in the Suffolk area in the late 1970s early 1980s. Sadly he passed away two and a half years ago.”

Lois Peachey, of Ipswich, said: “I got a surprise to see my dad in this picture. The tall man at the back between the Princess and the soldier on her right. He was Reg Peachey and his role from 1972 until his retirement was Army PRO for Colchester and Eastern District.

“I believe he is talking to Malcolm Rees who, as I am sure you know, worked for the EADT for a number of years.

“My dad died in 2008 and although I have a lot of pictures from his work, I had not seen this one before, so thank you.”

Another reader, Joanne Holbrow write regarding a picture from Hadleigh Youth Club, taken in 1979. She said: “The boy on the far left is Trevor Holbrow, my dad. They were doing a 24-hour sponsored ping pong and snooker challenge. He was 17 at the time.”

Christmas memories have been flooding back for Michael and Joy West, who said: “Father Christmas’ helper in the picture at Southwold in 1975 is our daughter Ann (now Ann Jerman). It was in his grotto behind the Swan Hotel.”

Finally, Chris Burman said of our tinkling the ivories photo: “Centre back is Calvin Goymer. Still playing the organ today, professionally I believe.

“Returned to Elmswell recently to perform as part of Elmswell Baptist Church 125th anniversary.”
