PARENTS have a special ability to embarrass their children.

And Charlotte Ruddock said she was left shocked after spying a picture of her dad posing in his pants in a May edition of Flashback.

Contacting us via email she said: “My mum and dad are both in the picture!!

The picture was of the four youths from the Young Farmers Rally, June 1982. The picture was taken at Haughley Park at the annual Young Farmers Club (YFC) rally. We believe the theme was jungle.

From top to right, the people are: Steve Ruddock (in his pants), Julie Petittit (Ruddock), Ruth Duchesne and we think Fiona Kirby.

“It was a real shock to see the picture in the paper but brought back good memories.”

Hugh Aldous also got in touch to identify a member of the Suffolk Ladies Golf Team at Woodbridge in June 1964.

He said: “The lady with the silver colour hair fourth from the right in the photo is the late Mrs Da Eddis also of the Aldeburgh Golf Club.”

Mrs M Boswell, from Aldeburgh, also recognised some of those taking part. She said: “It was an inter club championship. My mother, Margaret Burleigh, is on the extreme left. She was then lady captain of Thorpeness Golf Club. The short lady, sixth from right at the back, is Pauline Hislop, also played for Thorpeness. I am sorry I cannot identify more but they are obviously from different clubs.”

Also spotting a family connection was Jack Horner from Yoxford. He said: “Regarding the Flashback in the EADT (June 21) re the opening of Laxfield School’s swimming pool.

“The lad taking the plunge is our son David Horner and the boy in the water is Duncan Holliday. Both were pupils at Yoxford Primary School.”

Mrs D Munford of Thelnetham recognised her daughter from this lovely picture of award-winning nurses, taken in May 1983. She explained: “A week ago I was handed this picture at a family funeral, as I don’t have a daily paper.

“I do have this photo in a frame in my lounge as the one on the left is my daughter Susan Scopes.

“I do not have the other girl’s names on this picture as I lost my dear daughter eight years ago, 2004, at 46 years of age.”

Flashback also heard from Linda Pease who emailed in after spotting an old picture of Long Melford Cub Pack last month.

She said: “I can’t remember the year but it was between 1982-1984. The group were Long Melford Cub Pack, Akela at the back was Geoff Monk, the rector was Rev. Sansbury of Holy Trinity Long Melford, the group are on the top of the church tower holding a tea party, which I think was to celebrate 75 years of scouting.

“The boy on the right at the front is my son Graham Cain, the boy on the extreme left with blonde hair is Roger Wendt, the lad holding the cake board is I think surname Martin - sorry I can’t remember his Christian name.”

She added: “The three boys I have mentioned and Akela all lived in Glemsford but the pack meet at the Guide & Scout HQ in Long Melford.”

And finally Mrs S Martin recognised her husband as the hard-working tractor driver in our image of the pea harvest. She said: “My husband Mr Tony Martin was driving the tractor, he was 21 at the time, he is now 69. He was working for Mr Hugh Pulham at Brockford Hall.

“The driver of the lorry, unfortunately name not known.”
