MORE than 60 flights have been cancelled and many more are set to be grounded due to the ongoing bad weather that has crippled operations at Stansted Airport.
Airport operators BAA have advised passengers to check with their airlines about flights taking off later today and allow for extra travel time if heading to the airport.
The site's runway was closed late last night but reopened at 6.40am this morning. Despite the best efforts of staff, only two flights have left so far and a spokesman said plane movement would be severely disrupted for the rest of the day.
He said: “We are anticipating more heavy snow fall. I don't expect it to get back to normal today and it's likely that there could be more cancellations if the predicted snow does arrive.”
Staff have not only been clearing the snow from the runway but also on other parts of the airfield.

One cause of the disruption has been the lack of planes after many arrivals were diverted to alternative airports when the snow began falling heavily.
