Flood alerts have been issued for tidal estuaries in Suffolk and Essex as tides are expected to be higher than usual.

The alerts have been issued for the tidal River Deben, River Orwell and the River Stour.

Areas which may be affected include Felixstowe where the flood gates will be closed, as well as The Strand in Wherstead and the waterfront in Pin Mill.

In Essex the quay at Mistley and Harwich will be affected and the tides are estimated to be in effect at 2.24pm today.

Spring tides peaked yesterday which is partially responsible for the increased risk and the government has advised to take care on coastal roads and footpaths.
