Flood alerts are in place across several rivers in Suffolk and Essex, with the Environment Agency (EA) urging residents to be prepared for flooding in some areas.

The flood alerts are in place due to overnight rain from yesterday.

The following areas are affected:

Suffolk Coastal rivers

A flood alert for Suffolk Coastal states: “We are seeing high river levels on the Wrentham and Chediston watercourses due to last night’s rain.

“River levels are likely to rise slowly, especially in the area of Wrentham. Over the next six hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”

Thorpness Hundred River and the River Ore

The EA alert for the above rivers says: “River levels are likely to rise slowly, especially in the area of Knodishall.”

River Deben and River Lark

The EA alert read: “We are seeing high river levels on the River Deben due to the over night rain. River levels are likely to rise slowly especially in the area of Brandeston. Over the next eight hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”

River Gipping and the River Rat

The alert in place for the River Gipping from downstream of Needham Market to upstream of London Road Bridge, Ipswich, reads: “We are seeing high river levels on the River Gipping due to the overnight rain. River levels are likely to rise slowly. Over the next six hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”

For the River Rat and River Gipping through and including Stowmarket and Needham Market, they state: “We are seeing high river levels on the Rattlesden River due to last night’s rain. River levels are likely to rise slowly, especially in the area of Rattlesden. Over the next six hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”

Rivers Box and Brett

For these two rivers the warning reads: “We are seeing high river levels on the River Box due to last night’s rain. River levels are likely to rise slowly, especially in the area of Boxford. Over the next six hours, the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”

The River Colne (Essex)

The Enviroment Agency said: “We are seeing high river levels on the River Colne due to last night’s rain. River levels are likely to rise slowly, especially in the area of Pool Street. Over the next six hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”
