Despite what we’re often shown online and in the media, when it comes to being ‘fit and healthy’ there isn’t a one size fits all. Our health is not determined by our aesthetic appearance, how strict we are with our diet or whether or not we can run a sub 20 minute 5k or lift more than our own body weight in a gym. Our health is the cumulative sum of everything we do each and every day; how we eat, move, think, sleep, rest and more.

To achieve ‘optimal health’ we have to look at our lifestyles as a whole, and this is the prime reason a new league of personal trainers – calling themselves lifestyle transformation coaches – are getting ahead of the game.

A lifestyle transformation coach’s job is much more than simply designing a workout plan for an hour long session or writing up a diet plan for a client to take home. It’s about looking at a client’s overall lifestyle and daily habits, instilling confidence, changing behaviours and ultimately teaching clients it’s what they do regularly, rather than sporadically, that matters most.

Luke Hall is the founder, director and lead lifestyle transformation coach at Four Seasons Physique, a lifestyle transformation company working across Suffolk to teach healthy living habits to as many people as possible.

“A lifestyle transformation is an experience that enables anybody to achieve a healthier quality of life and enjoy the benefits of doing so for the rest of their life,” says Luke. “For us, it’s still personal training but it’s personal training the Four Seasons Physique way.”

Luke founded Four Seasons Physique in April 2018 after personal experience changing his own lifestyle for the better as a teenager meant he knew how beneficial the company could be for others.

“As a young man I had a tough time controlling my weight - I was 17 stone at the age of 14! This meant I went through the early stages of school not feeling great about myself, feeling unconfident, unmotivated and unfocussed. At Christmas 2010, I decided that I was going to change. I began exercising and eating healthily and over the course of seven months I lost four stone, all by the age of 15.

“I knew how good it felt to change my life and feel so much better about myself, both physically and mentally, and I wanted to help others start to feel more confidence, happy, motivated and positive too.”

Teaching healthy habits to every single one of their members and educating them on how they can sustain their results for the rest of their lives, Luke, and the four other coaches at Four Seasons Physique, are passionate about stopping the yoyo weight loss epidemic and giving people something that they can continue forever once they’ve achieved what they initially set out to.

Each coach not only has the knowledge, experiences and of course qualifications to train clients and analyse their nutrition, but they’re also positive, motivated and driven, and pride themselves on practicing what they preach. They all have fitness journeys of their own too, which provide insight and empathy to members as well.

“When you join team FSP, you’re given a lifestyle transformation coach who truly invests a piece of themselves into you and your way of life,” adds Luke. “I have realised that when you train somebody, and you train them well, there’s so much more to it than just exercise and nutrition. You can genuinely change somebody’s life. A lifestyle transformation means something different to every person, and we love that!

“We drive to our member’s home or work place, pick them up and train them outside, no matter the weather. We supply all the equipment for the workout and then drop them back off again. We’ve found this is convenient and time saving for clients and means there is no chance for excuses not to exercise as we will be knocking on their front door ready for training!”

Regardless of whether you have a trainer or not, staying motivated to reach your goals can be hard.

“How do we ensure people reach their goals and stay motivated to sustain them? Our answer is support and education and these are areas we pride ourselves on!” explains Luke. “By sharing our knowledge and experience with our members, they learn things about their health daily; things about their body that they didn’t know, their foods, their drink, their mindset. The more they learn, the more they understand about living a healthy lifestyle and the more interesting and enjoyable it becomes.

“By the time our members have finished their 12 week programmes, they’re equipped with all the physical and psychological skills they need in order to maintain their newly found healthy way of life, and most importantly, they’ll want to do it because it feels so great.

“Not only will their body and fitness improve dramatically but their attitude towards life will have been revolutionised. It’s easy to achieve this, it just takes a bit of effort and consistency.”
