A SUFFOLK artist can count a best-selling author among admirers of his work.

Eric Emsley’s debut exhibition of art, in the armoury at the Castle Inn, Framlingham, was opened by celebrated travel writer and humorist, Bill Bryson.

Mr Emsley credits painting with helping to overcome alcoholism - brought on by the death of his wife, Linda, in 1999 - which caused damage to his brain, affecting his mobility and leaving him in a wheelchair.

Bryson, who lives in the Norfolk countryside, just outside Norwich, also took time to share his affection for Framlingham and discuss the history of the town.
