A Suffolk singer has been nominated for an award considered “the pinnacle of achievement” within the world of classical music.

Former Framlingham College student, Christina Johnston, said it was “an honour” to be up for The Sound of Classical Poll for Classic BRITS.

Christina, who grew up in Woodbridge but has been based in Prague for much of her career, is described in her BRITS profile as “The Nightingale”, and praised for her work across Europe, Asia and South America.

“It feels like all my years of tremendous hard work are paying off,” she said.

“I hope to make the people of Suffolk, and of course Framlingham, proud.”

The award is open to young artists, aged 13-30, with the winner decided by a panel of industry progressions and announced on show night, June 13.

The ceremony, held at the Royal Albert Hall, will also feature live performances from Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong.
