SUFFOLK’s world famous star Ed Sheeran has topped off an impressive year by landing a nomination for a prestigious US music award.

The singer/songwriter’s track A Team has been shortlisted in the Song of the Year category for next’s year’s Grammys. It caps an incredible 12 months for Framlingham’s Ed, who went to the town’s Thomas Mills High School.

Posting a message about the nomination on social networking website Twitter, he said: “A team. A song I wrote with no home, no money, anything, nominated or best record at the Grammys. A dream come true. Ecstatic. I can’t describe how happy I am.”

He will be up against Miguel Pimentel’s Adorn, Carly Rae Jepsen and her single Call me Maybe, Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger and We are Young by Fun, featuring Janelle Monae.

Ed has already won a string of awards this year - including two gongs at the BRITs for Best Male Artist and Best British Breakthrough Act and an Ivor Novello when A Team was named best song of the year. As well as performing a sold out UK tour he has also enjoyed incredible sales figures in the last 12 months, with debut album + topping the charts.

This summer he also joined some of the biggest names in British pop for the London Olympic closing ceremony. Among other acts to be nominated for a Grammy are British folk rockers Mumford & Sons - who recently performed at the Ipswich Regent - and hip hop stars Jay-Z and Kanye West.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 10 in Los Angeles, with trophies handed out in 81 categories.
