PUPILS are teachers are celebrating after a pleasing report from Government inspectors.

Sir Robert Hitcham’s Primary School in Framlingham has been rated as “good” in all areas by Ofsted. The inspection took place over two days at the end of last term.

Headteacher Helen Picton said: “We are delighted with the findings. This was a fair and very thorough inspection, and in the new Ofsted framework, ‘good’ really does mean ‘good’.

“Our staff work tirelessly to provide an excellent education, in an environment that is aspirational yet caring and respectful.

“Full credit goes to them and the children for showing the inspectors how wonderful our school is.”

Ofsted look at four areas of performance: achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

In all four areas Sir Robert Hitcham’s was ‘good’, with some teaching rated ‘outstanding’. To reach the highest level inspectors said pupils must be given more opportunities to work on their own and find things our for themselves and that teachers must set challenging targets for more of the youngsters to exceed expected progress.
