A Suffolk deputy head has been praised for her “wisdom and kindness” after 30 years in the role.
Elizabeth Halley joined Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham in 1988 and continued in the post until her retirement last week.
Miss Halley said despite many changes, much at the school remained the same.
“Most importantly, what fundamentally has not changed relates to the pupils,” she added. “The youngsters here continue to work in a spirit of ‘civilized co-operation’ with their teachers. The majority are polite and good natured. They accept difference; they work hard; they are proud of their school. I am too.”
Headteacher Philip Hurst praised Miss Halley’s “exceptional” contribution to the school and the “wisdom and kindness” she showed as leader of the pastoral system. “Through her hard work and calm manner, she has been a valued colleague as well as being an excellent teacher of English,” he said.
Miss Halley is succeeded by Mark Wheeler who is currently assistant headteacher. Her pastoral work will be led by a new assistant headteacher, Louise Armes, who is currently a head of year.
