St Mary’s Church needs the work doing to around 10 of its 63 windows that have suffered natural wear and tear.

Now the Friends of St Mary’s Church Hadleigh group is to set about raising the funds needed to carry out the work – the largest total it has attempted to collect in its history.

Andrew Napier, a member of the friends group’s committee, said of the work: “It includes some of the masonry around the windows and in some cases the windows themselves.

“The friends have been chugging along quite merrily raising £6,000 or £7,000 a year, but we decided we really needed to raise our game.”

Special events and private and corporate donations will be used to raise the cash.
