BEAUTY hopeful Harriet Flatt is more at home in a pair of overalls helping out on her dad's farm than walking the fashion runway in the latest designer labels.

The 16-year-old even drives a tractor and for her last birthday was given a brand new combine harvester.

But now the Bungay High School pupil is enjoying a world far removed from the day to day toil of farm life.

Earlier this year she was spotted by beauty judges at the Clothes Show in Birmingham and is now hoping to be crowned Miss Teen Queen UK.

It has all been a bit of a shock for the teenager, who is more used to helping out her dad, Gordon, at Blooms Hall Farm, in Rumburgh, near Halesworth.

Harriet said: “I cut the corn and help with the harvest and cultivations. I got a promotion this year actually because I can now drive the combine harvester.

“I was very shocked when I was chosen. They came up to me and asked if I'd ever done any modelling before, to which I said no. I had some pictures taken and they took my details and I didn't think any more of it.

“But in February I got a letter through asking if I could go down to London for a photo shoot. It was fantastic, I had a lovely time.”

After the photo shoot judges selected Harriet for the final stages of the Teen Queen UK competition and she is now hoping the people of Suffolk will get her over the finishing line.

“It'd be great if I reached the final,” Harriet said. “It'd be a dream come true. Hopefully people will vote for me but we'll have to wait and see.

“I've never thought about modelling before. If I did well then I think I'd like to try and do both - the modelling and working on the farm.”

Her proud mum Julie added: “It's amazing because obviously she's a farmer's daughter. In her spare time she puts her overalls on and helps my husband on the farm. She drives the tractor and she even got a new combine harvester for her birthday.

“We were over the moon when she was chosen. She is a lovely girl with such a lovely personality. She's just a pleasure to be with and gets on very well at school. She'll put her hand to anything - it doesn't matter what it is.”
