Ipswich council bin collections restarted on Friday morning – but it is not clear whether every property would be able to get a visit because of the state of some of the town’s roads.

The crews were tackling main roads first and assessing each street to see if the lorries can access them and the crews able to work safely.

A Council spokesman said: “The message remains the same: we are doing everything we can to get through but please be patient.”

Residents should leave their bins and any extra bagged black bin waste out and they will be collected as soon as it is safe to do so. The cold weather is supposed to ease up early next week, allowing collections to resume fully.

On Thursday collections had to be stopped early because of dangerous conditions – and it is possible that only major roads will be able to have their bins collected until next week.
