Hundreds descended on Benhall at the weekend for the village’s 72nd annual village show.

This year’s event, which originally started as a memorial to all who served their country, looked to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

The show was opened with a brief service of remembrance before veteran Frank Clarke, joined by Warrant Officer Steve Langford, who is stationed in Colchester with the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, officially opened the show.

An afternoon of traditional fun and games followed, including a flower and craft show, a dog show, a fancy dress competition, a coconut shy and a host of live entertainment.

Show chairman Sarah Slade said: “Thanks to everyone that came along and contributed to the show’s success which wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of hard work from a lot of people.”
