Funnel clouds and waterspouts have been spotted in Suffolk this weekend.

Eagle-eyed readers captured some stunning shots of the cloud formation in Brampton yesterday afternoon, as well as off the coast at Thorpeness in the evening.

Dan Holley, from East Anglian-based forecasters Weatherquest, said one was also spotted in the Duxford area on Friday evening.

Mr Holley said: “You need the perfect conditions to come together, they vary year on year.

“They don’t tend to cause too much damage.”

He added he was “very jealous” to not have seen them himself and said they were tricky to predict.

He said: “You can’t tell where they’re going to form. There’s lots of unknowns and uncertainty.

“But looking at it you could have said there may have been the potential for them on Friday and yesterday.”

Looking to the week ahead, Mr Holley said the forecast was “mixed.” He said: “There will be a dry start tomorrow but there will be rain come in from the west.

“Wednesday and Thursday don’t look too bad but there’s a front over France that could come north. It’s not going to be a washout.”

Mr Holley said highs this week could reach 24C (75.2F) on Wednesday.
